From August 2 to 9th, Burlington Heritage Week invites you to explore the city’s diverse heritage through a series of 18 free events held at various locations across town. Organized by Heritage Burlington in partnership with local institutions like the Burlington Historical Society, Royal Botanical Gardens, Museums of Burlington, and others, this year’s theme—“Living with Our Natural Heritage, Naturally”—guides a dynamic schedule ranging from walking tours and trivia nights to outdoor displays and pop‑up art shows. Highlights include the Opening Ceremony on August 2 at the Art Gallery of Burlington featuring special guest speakers and live music from the Burlington Symphony Orchestra quartet, followed by a guided Railway and Historic Houses Walking Tour. Most activities are drop‑in, though some require pre‑registration; all events are free, and many accept donations to the Burlington Food Bank.
Want to explore even more? The city recommends checking out the Heritage displays at City Hall and Confederation Square to complement the week’s festivities.
Art in the Park – Oakville
Visit Oakville, Monday, August 4th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park in Oakville—located at Bronte Road & Ontario Street—for the 58th annual Art in the Park. Expect over 175 talented artists showcasing original work across diverse media—painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, glass, jewelry, and more—in one of southern Ontario’s best‑run art festivals. Whether you're browsing, buying, or chatting with creators, this vibrant lakeside showcase is a must‑see for art lovers and community members alike.
Ride the Rails at The Halton Transit Museum
Nestled between Rockwood and Campbellville in Milton, Ontario, the Halton County Radial Railway Museum is a fascinating working museum dedicated to preserving Ontario’s electric railway heritage. Operated by the Ontario Electric Railway Historical Association, this nonprofit organization showcases a remarkable collection of historic streetcars, radial cars, buses, and trolleybuses—many of which you can actually ride! Established in 1953 and proudly recognized as the province’s first and largest electric railway museum, HCRR brings the golden era of streetcars and TTC history to life. Whether you’re a rail enthusiast, a family looking for a unique outing, or someone curious about local history, it’s a truly memorable experience. The museum is open seasonally, and admission includes unlimited streetcar rides for the day—$20 for adults, $18 for seniors and youth, and $16 for children aged 4–12 (kids under 3 are free).
Explore the Escarpment Train Exhibit at the Royal Botanical Garden
All aboard for a delightful stop at the Escarpment Train Exhibit, on display at RBG’s picturesque Rock Garden in Hamilton during the August 2–4 long weekend, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Tucked inside the Robert Stipe Garden House, this whimsical G-scale model railway brings Canadian rail history to life with miniature landscapes and locomotives from three eras—from 19th-century steam engines to sleek 1930s streamliners and modern diesel trains. Getting there includes a scenic stroll through the Rock Garden, adding to the experience.
Even better—the exhibit is included with regular garden admission or membership, so no extra ticket is needed. Whether you’re a train enthusiast, a fan of model building, or simply love exploring beautiful spaces, this charming display is a standout addition to any RBG visit.
